Motion Picture Association of America film rating system

The Motion Picture Association of America's film-rating system is used in the USA and it is the company that rate film content suitability for certain audiences. I will use this at the begging of my trailer to give it a more professional look. 

Colour tone

Here I have experimented with different colour tones to find out which ones I will use for my trailer. I think I will be using X-Ray (The first picture) and Sci-fi (the sixth picture) as I feel they will give my trailer a sci-fi look as they have a green/blue tone which are iconic colours for sci-fi films. This will help my audience audince understand my film's genre.

For my trailer I want to create a fish eye affect with the camera moving forward though a wood. I think this will create a feel that we are seeing what a creature/alien is seeing (point of view shot). This will shows the viewer the genre and grab the audiences attention making them want to watch the film.

Research into transitions

 

After watching this video I knew I would use mainly cuts and fades. I would use fades and cuts as it would show my audience that the clips they are being shown are from different parts of the film, which is key to any trailer.

For my titles in my trailer I wanted to created a blood splatter affect, like theses examples

My soundtrack

From my audience feedback knew I wanted to find a song that was unknown as I previously used "Mad World" which made most people think of Donnie Darko. I did not want this as it would distract my audience from my film. So I went back to my post on my film soundtrack influences and favourite composers and did some research into Zack Hemsey's work and found the song "The Way". I really liked the slow pace and tone of the piano, I felt it would give my film trailer a creepy feel to it. I also think it's not too over the top, which some soundtracks are and distract the audience from the visuals.

Awards and quotes

In my trailer I want to put transitions with awards and quotes in, to make my audience want to watch my film.

Teaser trailer

After filming and editing my footage I have decided to create a teaser trailer rather than a theatrical trailer as I feel my footage fits better to a teaser.

Also my school has purchased new filming equipment, so I would like to learn how to use something new, most teasers use special effects to draw the audience in.
